Role Overview

The New Ventures Intern will support the Director of New Ventures in evaluating, incubating, and advancing new business and product opportunities across American Peat Technology’s portfolio. This internship offers hands-on exposure to venture development, financial modeling, market analysis, and early-stage commercialization within an entrepreneurial, industrial operating environment.

The ideal candidate is a business- or finance-focused student interested in strategy, FP&A, corporate development, or entrepreneurship, and is eager to apply analytical skills to real-world growth initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in Business, Finance, Economics, Analytics, Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; comfort working in Excel and PowerPoint

  • Interest in venture development, strategy, FP&A, or entrepreneurship

  • Ability to structure ambiguous problems and communicate insights clearly

  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Curiosity and willingness to engage with industrial, agricultural, or manufacturing-based businesses

Key Responsibilities

Financial Modeling & Business Analysis

  • Support the development and refinement of financial models, forecasts, and business cases for new ventures and product concepts

  • Assist with scenario analysis, sensitivity modeling, and ROI assessments to inform go/no-go decisions

  • Help track actual performance versus plan for incubated initiatives and pilots

Market Research & Opportunity Evaluation

  • Conduct market sizing, customer segmentation, and competitive analysis for prospective growth opportunities

  • Research industry trends, pricing dynamics, and adjacent markets relevant to APT’s portfolio

  • Synthesize findings into concise insights and recommendations for leadership review

New Venture & Product Launch Support

  • Assist with planning and execution of pilot programs, product trials, and early commercialization efforts

  • Coordinate inputs from Sales, Marketing, Operations, and R&D to support milestone tracking

  • Help document objectives, KPIs, timelines, and assumptions for incubated ventures

Commercial & Go-to-Market Support

  • Support go-to-market planning, including pricing analysis, volume projections, and capacity considerations

  • Assist with development of internal materials such as launch plans, dashboards, and decision memos

  • Help prepare content for leadership updates and cross-functional reviews

Strategic & Cross-Functional Projects

  • Support ad hoc strategic initiatives related to portfolio prioritization, capital allocation, or process improvement

  • Participate in cross-functional discussions to gain exposure to Operations, Sales & Marketing, Finance, and R&D perspectives

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the new ventures incubation process
