committed to responsible resource development

Since 2003, American Peat Technology (APT) has crafted environmentally-friendly peat-based solutions for agriculture, water remediation and other industries. After all, as a locally-owned, home-grown company that largely employs our neighbors and friends, we truly do live and play where we work. Clean water, healthy landscapes and clean air impact our lives away from work and propel us in our commitment to stewardship.

  • Responsible Practices: We use carbon-neutral biomass to dry our peat and minimize our carbon footprint. We repurpose equipment and materials to save costs and reduce waste. We boast that our talented fabricators and maintenance staff can make anything we need with some scrap iron, a couple of welding rods and their can-do attitude.

  • Prior-converted peatland: We harvest from a peatland that has been used for farming for nearly 100 years and where the underlying hydrology has been significantly impacted.  We are not harvesting from an undisturbed, virgin peatland.

  • Responsible Harvesting: Our lean manufacturing plant produces nearly zero peat waste; all the peat we harvest goes into our final products. Following harvest, we reclaim the harvested acres, using best management practices, to create a thriving shallow peat-producing wetland ecosystem with diverse flora and fauna.

  • Community Impact: We provide economic development for our rural Minnesota county by providing jobs, buying locally and investing in the communities that we call home through an intentional giving program.

  • Innovative R&D: Our commitment to developing valuable products with environmental benefit is clearly evident: BioAPT microbial carriers build healthy soil and reduce the need for nitrogen fertilizers. APTsorb results in clean water without the use of petroleum-based resins. PeatBuilt+ products deliver natural plant inputs for stronger and more resilient crops and turf.
